Got an ATS decoder pocket shortwave radio.

It is a radio. It receives. You can hear what it receives.

Decoding, not so much. I hooked it up to my HF antenna that I just did FT8 on my real #hamradio with no issues. Not a single decode in 5 minutes on the same band and same antenna. I can hear the audio, but no decoding.

What is it supposed to decode, RTTY, CW?

I see ft4, ft8, jt9, jt65, psk, sstv, hell, rtty, and CW in the menu.

Only tried ft8 so far but not impressed.

How do you sync the clock on it?

So it wasn't set. Thought sure that would be it. I set time via FM RDS and confirmed it set the system time from that. Went back to FT8, still no decodes over 4 full cycles.

I would try to feed audio from the radio into your PC to help troubleshoot this. Maybe its internally in lower sideband mode or the audio is distorted or filtered.

It's your clock likely. Check your clock vs time.is

Needs to be almost perfectly sync on cpu

I'll have to figure out how to set the clock on it.

It's the clock on your computer running ft8. It needs to be with I think 300ms of the signal senders clock.

Everytime my ft8 doesn't decode, that's what the culprit is. My clock has slightly drifted from global sync.

Oh, I think I see now, it's built in decoding. Yes, for sure I bet it's the clock sync then.

I synced the clock using RDS on broadcast FM. Still no decodes.

Hmm. Then I'm not sure.

It doesn't have to be perfect. When I am operating FT8 in my truck (parked), I am often up to 3 seconds off and still get some decodes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure FT8 sends all the info multiple times in the 15s interval and FT4 is the exact same encoding with fewer repeats.

Wow. Not me. Anything over a half a second, I never get decodes on ft8.

Unless that's js8call, not sure....
