it was NOT about fast - it was fact SAFEST for travellers or locals not to carry ton of cash in those non-digital days. you sign n authorization was enough. user will still fight scammers who used duplicate cards
Clear! I find it incredible that you had to trust that the person had funds on their card and then take the receipts to the bank.
