That said, if someone willingly takes a life, then their life should also be forfeited as well (especially if it involves children). There is no reason for them to remain alive after willingly murdering others.

It's actually cheaper to imprison then for life than to execute them anyways (due to the cost of appeals, etc) so the cost argument holds no water.
The state should not be in the business of taking lives. It's time the US joined the rest of the civilized world.
