I have to disagree here.

While advertisers have a huge influence, the problem with media is worse: it sells what the audience buys.

People want to hear about UFOs? As soon as some news item is plausible, they hype the heck out of it.

This makes it easy for the bureaucracy and corporates to manipulate them with press releases.

Since the 1990s, half of what media does is retype press releases + pop quotes anyway.
