OSM sucks for address lookup and completely fails at contextual lookup. Non-big-tech mapping is just awful at this point.

That's why I let people know about StreetComplete. In my area, addresses that I go to (or are near where I go to) are very well populated. 🤗 But when I'm at some place new, yeah, it's pretty sparse.
I've been told. But... Entering addresses manually is so 1972. I would really like to be able to write a script that just scrapes area data from big tech maps and then updates OSM auto-magicaly. It was suggested that this idea is illegal and could result in a lower suit against OSM Foundation, which I suppose is a risk, but, if OSMF didn't know, then they have plausible deniability. Maybe.
It would also result in all the incorrect data getting into OSM. I don't to get Apple mapped by OSM. That'd be the ultimate burn. 🔥
Well I think that organic maps might fit you
No. Address lookup sucks on everything that is based on OSM.
what do you exactly mean by that?
You type in a typical address, let's say:
123 Filthy Bugger Lane, Townly City
Nothing comes up. It can't parse normal address language.
I use organic maps weekly when I need it and for me it works great. Also with addresses that I find on websites.
The only problem that I have with it is that I cannot filter out the results, so if there are more streets with the same name, or store locations, I cannot see them on the map or filter them out in the text search.
