I've done what you propose - got much education there, lived and worked in a dozen different "states".
"Success" is just as much luck of the draw there, as in UK and many other territories. Appearance of the opposite is just PR and mythology from another era long past.
Many other police states with just as much or more opportunity nowadays.

My favourite that stand out in my memory are their gun club people: in my experience, as a group, they are on average the most sensible and honourable I encountered there.
