I honestly think its exactly that simple. Also, about the stars/constellations never changing, they do seasonally, plus the southern & northern hemispheres see different stars. Polaris cannot be seen once passing a few degrees of latitude south of the equator. And since we see the same sun (a star) year after year, why could we not see the same everything year after year? The other planets are always where they are supposed to be. The moons of the other planets are always where they are supposed to be. As is our moon. Time can be set by any of them. None of that would be possible unless everything was moving in cyclical unison.
