Did you insulate it?
That's got to be really annoying.
Well the cold temps finally got me. nostr:npub12gu8c6uee3p243gez6cgk76362admlqe72aq3kp2fppjsjwmm7eqj9fle6 my tankless hot water heater froze again. This was the one that didn’t freeze the last time. Thought it was an insulation issue. Now I think there’s a bit of water inside the unit that has frozen. Got a heater on it now.
At least it’s on the exterior of my house so if something bursts, I don’t think it will damage my house.
Accountants don’t make good plumbers. 😂😂😂😂
Did you insulate it?

I have insulation in the bottom where there some exposed valves but they don’t really feel cold. I thought that was why my other tankless froze last year. But I think it’s frozen in the unit which you can’t really insulate. Hoping it thaws without bursting. I have the faucets turned on so the water has somewhere to go as it thaws. It worked last time.🤞🏻
Is it in any kind of enclosure?
Yes it’s in an enclosed metal box. Since it’s enclosed and the depth and width of the box are basically the same, there’s really no way to
Insulate that part.
That's not true. You can wrap the outside or get a larger enclosure and insulate that. You could also get a heat tape to wrap around the inside of the box, which should give enough heat to keep it from freezing, but that would work better with insulation.
This is what I’m working with.
Oh. You could cram an old school lightbulb in the space below and that would probably work if you can't get a heat tape, though, I think you could fit a heat tape even in those tight quarters.
That’s actually a good idea. There is a 110 power plug the bottom of the box. I’ll have to look into that once I get it thawed out. Thanks for the idea.
You're welcome! I'm dealing with my own freezing issues, and I've learned a bunch. Happy to pass ideas along that keep the water flowing!
