Clippy, despite being a poor piece of software, was simply there to help you. It wasn't trying to privacy-r*pe you at every turn to surveil you, upsell you, data-leak you, silence you, etc.

The suggestion to change your profile pic to Clippy comes from Louis Rossmann, a Youtuber who promotes right to repair and right to privacy. Just to gain awareness of how many people agree with this sentiment.

This trend is weird

Clippy is a Microsoft mascot

I know, and I used to despise Clippy with a passion. That's the point. What we have now is much worse

Because people kept using Microsoft products

It's not like everyone switched to Linux because they hated Clippy and then stuff got this bad

The idea that glorifying Clippy somehow makes things better is insane

It's not about glorifying Clippy at all, everyone knows that Clippy was crap

So just continue hating Clippy, there's no need to make it your pfp

I despised Clippy because it was crappy software, the point is that it was written with good intent (to help users). Whereas most popular software nowadays is the opposite. It's high quality software, written with bad intent.

Clippy was a closed source Microsoft product

It was not written with good intent

And what we have today is not high quality software

The more you clippy pfp people say, the less a clippy pfp seems like "weird confusing thing I don't understand" and the more it seems like "yet another trend of people fellating Microsoft"

Hey, you do you
