I understand both sides to this. The government has already committed evil by usury in lending more than necessary and driving up the price of education and, in essence, trapping people in permanent debt, so the predatory lending victims ought not have to pay back the debt. The government is responsible for the damages, but unfortunately, the government doesn't have its own money to forgive those debts but the taxpayers'. Two wrongs don't make a right, of course, but I think we need to think about what the alternative would have been, as well if the primary wrong was already committed, namely the lending of taxpayer money to students.

The taxpayers' money was already stolen, and it happens to only be put on the books now.

What we need now is a general ban on government loans.
