Cernobyl really made a lot of 2nd order damage. Soviet commies gave the green commies a lot of ammunition to halt the progress with nuclear energy. And US military stopped the salt based reactors from being developed, perhaps because they needed the processed uranium for the nukes? Dunno, it's quite sad the development stalled/halted in the 80s.
