But this interoperation between platforms is essential to what the fediverse is.

That doesn't mean a server running ActivityPub software has to federate with anyone. Server A can mute or block (exact terminology varies) Server B for hosting spam, or other posts the Server A community don't want to see. But these are case-by-case decisions, made by each server, according to its own standards. In general, we want a situation where any server can potentially interact with any other.

You should slso add that you share on #nostr too.

As of today Mastodon protocol is used to share notes between Mastodon and other AP apps like Peertube, Pixelfed or Mobilizon. Try to post, mention a Peertube account from Pixelfed, or subscribe to a Mobilizon event from Peertube, AP is there but communication is not (yet ?) possible. AP is already 7 years old. May be one day each app will be able to talk directly to each other.

We tested zaps and zap receipts on this note… we made six attempts to⚡zap this note, using your lightning address starting with "twen", over a period of about 1 hour. Six of the zaps were successfully paid... Please check for 6 satoshis received. Problem: we found that your lightning address server **did not* properly produce zap receipts, and/or didn't send the zap receipts to the relays specified in the zap. This means that nobody else could see see that you got zapped... no number appears next to the ⚡icon after zapping.... You might want to look into using a cloud-based Lightning node to get more reliable zaps.
