Hostility against tourists is pretty bad in Spain this year. It’s starting to touch on xenophobia, tbh.
The thing is that the overwhelming majority of the economic growth in Spain these past years is directly linked to tourism.
The sad part us that I don’t think they’re aware of any of this.
We are aware, but a minority attacks the hand that feeds them. On the other hand, as an inhabitant of tourist areas, in summer it is very stifling, many autochthonous in summer we do not approach the tourist areas because of too much overcrowding.
In the middle ground is the virtue, I think we must promote quality tourism and not hordes of young drunks breaking everything. We have the best country in the world, we must take care of it. 🇪🇸💜☺️
Yeah, many friends who still live here tell exactly that, that they avoid all touristy areas and feel tourism is depriving them of their own city. I totally get it, I lived here before and I witnessed how the city changed and prioritized tourism above its own inhabitants.
But there’s certain attitudes and discourse that just feels wrong.
My daughter came this year here for the first time as an adult, with a good friend, and the impression some people are giving is pretty bad actually.
As I said, I sympathize with locals, I was one of them not long ago, but I believe some people are using tourists as scapegoats for many of their problems.
There is definitely a problem to be solved there, people do not realize that the tourist is not the problem, but the way we channel our tourism. Quality tourism, offering quality services.
For example, what is happening in Mallorca is very sad to me. It is a paradise and it is not being adequately protected. We must welcome the tourist with open arms but preserving our land.
It is a complicated issue, where we totally agree is to reject the retards who treat badly to those who come to visit, they are a minority, if you have lived here you know that we are very hospitable 😀
Yup, same for Croatia, it is about the only revenue for the country. Agriculture=destroyed, industry& manufacturing=destroyed. Now people have to be polite to, sometimes, very annoying tourists.
I totally understand that there’s some very annoying tourists who think they own every place they go to.
I’ve been on the receiving end of that before but now I find myself here as a tourist.
I feel some people are using tourists as scapegoats for many of their problems.
