for me the big fail of current communities is lack of moderation tools. a community is not "the public square" that Twitter was supposed to be. a community is a private room.

the reason you don't need moderation on Twitter is because everybody has to manually choose who to follow. if somebody is a jerk - simply don't follow them. but in a Community once you open it you get content from everybody - not just people you're following.

furthermore whereas there is one public square there are many private rooms so even if somebody is banned from 90% of then it isn't really censorship as long as they have the right to open their own room and have moderating privileges there, plus they aren't banned from the main public square.

we need communities where the moderators can ban trolls and / or delete their posts. the current model only worked so far because nobody was using it in the first place. even on my own site which is clearly not heavily used i had to ban many trolls.

i don't know about NIP-72 but communities without moderation have no future.

i would not mind starting over from scratch on a different NIP as long as moderation issue is addressed.
