The population was much wealthier in the 60s; they could afford the level of service pictured.

Due to money printing, the dollar has lost most of it's purchasing power since then. Inflation made the population poor.

Equivalent ticket in today's dollars is >$50,000.

Inflation has left its mark for sure but there’s no need to exaggerate things

We're not even thinking about travel in our household. Even in-country and slumming it is expensive, let alone actually getting a level of quality that seems worth the effort.

Standard hotel stay in a "decent" big city is like 400 CAD a night + air travel + car rental + eating out.
