The new company I work at uses AI in engineering to a degree I find very impressive. They are gathering tons of relatively small, but meaningful productivity improvements (definitely not “10x” more productive).

But guess what? There’s still a tremendous amount of engineering being done with DEEP technical expertise.

Don’t believe the hype. AI won’t replace skill. It only amplifies the need for it.

Yes, and it adds new risk for hiring. I have had to fire two developers recently because it became obvious within a few weeks that both were relying on AI to the point they were pushing slop PRs and didn’t actually know how to code well.
