#bookstr 5 of 2025 complete...the final book in the Mistborn Trilogy - The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson

...wow! What a read. The book tying up the many fascinating and intertwined stories and characters, but without feeling rushed or forced

10/10 does the Trilogy no justice! I already want to read the first book again πŸ˜…

I think the next #bookstr may have to SoftWar...it's been lurking on my reading list for some time now...but open to suggestions?

Great to see these books getting so much love from the nostr community!!

The writing in metal gave me goosebumps...fantastic reads, recommended by nostr:nprofile1qqsx6x46t6g7ltslq5jgzerg6yr35tka6kvswgfa6q5awu9xsqhphpspz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7lceftd, grateful I saw the note that day.

P.S I still need to get on OpenLibrarian but haven't spun up any new keys while travelling for testing, and don't have access to Alby Extension

I will get on it though 🀘

I know right, the magic system is just so good as well. If you want to extend the fun then β€œAlloy of Law” is a good one.

No panic on OL, I’ve added browser extension login now but yeah if you are on the road new keys could work. See how you get on. No pressure ofc, much appreciate the offer to try it out :)

Happy to help anyone building in this space πŸ€™

There are 3-4 more Mistborn books, too. The next is Alloy of Law if I remember right, and it starts like 100 years later with the world having moved into a sort of wild west era.

Mistborn is also part of Sanderson's greater Cosmere universe. You don't need to read everything in universe to understand any individual series set in it, but there are lots of easter eggs, and they're all governed by the same metaphysics. Other series in the universe include Eltantris (one novel and a novella, I think more planned), Warbreaker (one novel, more planned), Stormlight Archive (5 huge books plus like 3 novellas, lots more planned), White Sands (3 volume graphic novel), and a handful of standalone novels, novellas, and short stories.

Ooooooooo shit!! πŸ‘€ well there's a whole shelf of my bookcase reserved

I think I'll step away from Sanderson to fully appreciate the works I just read, but thank you so much for the note about the other series.

Will definitely be back this year for more. Really enjoyed his writing and the metaphysics (once I got my head around book 1 πŸ˜…)

They're all fantastic, so I'd totally recommend going through the whole Cosmere. If you just want to do Mistborn, that's totally cool, but if you go through the whole Cosmere, I generally recommend publication order because books frequently build off of or highlight how the metaphysics has evolved in the past, so you're learning how things work at the same time he's making use of it.

The only reading order exception I recommend is MAYBE Eltantris. It's the very first Cosmere book published, and while it's still a solid book, it's his first one, so his writing isn't quite as good yet. Still great, just has some fierce competition from the rest of the Cosmere. I generally recommend the Mistborn trilogy first to set the hook, and if you're all in, read Eltantris. If you're still not all about it yet, read Warbreaker first. Warbreaker is a lot of people's favorite, and it's still a really early book that fits around there in the publication order anyway.

Appreciate it, and I've added the entire Cosmere (in order) to my reading list. I'm going to read some more educational works for now, then jump into Eltantris and go from there.

Thanks again for taking the time o write these notes 🀘

Yeah, glad to hear you're interested. I've only had one friend read any of it, and he goes so sloooow, so I'm always excited to introduce it to people. If you have questions as you go, googling can be risky if you don't want spoilers. I can answer questions if you DM me as they come up, or /r/Cosmere on reddit is great at restricting answers to non-spoilers. Might not be enough fans on nostr to get a good answer yet

Tried to zap you but no lightning address on your npub...do you need help setting one up? Happy to help if I can
