This is weird… There are messages that I posted that don’t show in my timeline anymore. For instance the following one which is still live on #Nostr:

https://damus.io/note12z84e5lzu4mz2lxd4jgqcrdlq94tz0fk4zcetwnxxf8zzvzna0pswp3tlx

Does anyone know why this message wouldn’t show on my timeline? Is this a bug? If so does it come from Nostr or #Damus (which I’ve been using)?

Something todo with conductivity to relays at least that’s what I was told by someone else?

I’m not sure what this means. Do you know if this is something that can be fixed or mitigated?

It’s a bummer though. Preservation of social media notes is a benefit I expected to gain from using #Nostr. I may have to rethink about that...

You just need to run your own relay so you have complete control over your data.

Was going to do this myself with my umbrel but I guess they can’t figure out how to keep shit stable on rpi’s for some reason?

Probably would work better if I finally got around to setting up my server.

That’s true, although the issue with the « conductivity » of data may also happens to my relay.

Is it that the data is stored on relays but can’t be retrieved or is it that it’s lost forever?

I used to be connected to 7 or so relays so I would find odd that all of them would have erased the data. #asknostr

No from what I gather it’s more on the fetching side.

Like the request to fetch a certain note is getting a bad return.

Id have to assume it would happen on your own relay as only your stuff gets saved to it.

Everything is permanent.

Even deleted accounts.

So it looks like it’s an issue that isn’t specific to a given relay but that is rather caused at the protocol level. #Nostr

Possibly?
