To my knowledge it’s been written by Wachowski sisters (formerly brothers) heavily inspired by Baudrillards Simulacra and Simulation
From what I'm coming across it seems she may have written the books but the Wachowskis made the film. Apparently there was a court case over it.
What books exactly ? I never heard
Seems she wrote a book called the third eye which she claims was the inspiration for the matrix.
