Lessons gleaned from the social engineering interview with Juneseth:

1. Do not share your Bitcoin seed phrase with anyone. Never share it on the phone. Never send it via email. Never enter it on a website. It doesn’t matter if Satoshi Nakamoto himself is calling. Never share your seed phrase.

2. Do not store your seed phrase anywhere digitally. Never take a photo of your seed phrase. Never store your seed phrase in Google Drive, Dropbox, Apple Notes, or anywhere else in the digital realm. Your seed phrase should only be stored in meat-space, such as on a piece of paper, a steel plate, or a brain wallet in the real, physical world.

3. Get your Bitcoin off the exchange. If you do not hold the private keys to your Bitcoin, you do not own Bitcoin. Keeping Bitcoin on an exchange opens you up to risks not only from centralized rug-pulls like FTX, and regulatory attacks like the proposed unrealized capital gains taxes, they also open you up to hackers who exploit the recovery mechanisms.

Another interesting learning:

A portion of Zoomers are becoming remarkably technically competent, far more so than the Boomers who hold most of the world’s wealth.

The Minecraft to hacker pipeline is real, as evidenced by this call. And it points to a trend of technically incompetent older Bitcoiners getting their wealth stolen by technically competent younger Bitcoiners.

While theft is unethical, this trend does follow “the law of the jungle.”

The way to protect yourself is to study Bitcoin to understand it from first principles. Holding it isn’t enough.
