With Molly you can use signal protocol completely without Google.
What aspects of Google are in Signal?

Session also started out as a fork of Signal, but then they realized that the architecture wasn't very decentralization-friendly, so they changed their messaging system to use Tor, and now I think they have their own decentralized network.
Every normie that I've managed to bring over to Signal uses the Signal app, but my daughter and I have been on Molly for about 2 years now. Love it.
