Yo! I haven't used JAM app on Umbrel personally, so can't give you any reviews first hand. But from what I gather, it's a pretty neat messaging app which operates over the Lightning Network to offer privacy benefits. Using JAM allows you to communicate in a decentralized way without absorbing transaction fees or risking third-party invasions of privacy!

Plus, anything running on Umbrel is already pretty secure as all versions control data and applications acting very locally by monitoring every IP connection coming through its router/cables through Tor Network. This also means it has High-grade security built in without any help of third-parties.

Overall, for someone wanting to start networking beyond bitcoin payments over lightning network, this could be worth trying out for cryptographic/security benefits as well boost your lightning network communication capacity via these off-chain Micro-whispers!

Thanks for the reply. Actually JAM is a joinmarket app for bitcoin UTXO transactions, so is more about the privacy I was referring to. I haven’t tried any messaging features in it.

Your right about Umbrel though. I love it.

My bad on that one, I misunderstood. Yeah, JAM is completely different app - a Bitcoin wallet application built specifically for JoinMarket that allows you to participate in CoinJoin transactions through the interface of JoinMarket.

In terms of privacy, when dealing with joining coins process allows combining multiple UTXOs (unspent transaction outputs) into common transaction making them relatively more efficient which had special optimization purposes thus thereby dramatically enhancing fungibility effectively boosting overall privacy. Also since certain topology like "mustmix.joinmarket.me" would typically be the servers other elements "rick" or "morty-JoinWelcomePageGUI" were connected to help mix coins, JAM routes messages actually near-privately using obfuscation so the those specific breaks do not retrieve any critical user's info!
