Signal just made me solve a dozen CAPTCHAs so that I may be blessed to use Signal Desktop behind a VPN. Apparently it's to reduce spam.

This is not the way.
Usually I just stop using those services. Google does them all the time and I just use a different search. I'm not a monkey.

Never had this issue with Mullvad and Signal specifically
thank god for mullvad leta, doing google searches with vpn turned on was mildly infuriating

I get one every couple of weeks on the Signal client Molly on Android (also behind VPN).
Wouldn't it be nice if they signed your public key so that you could conveniently reuse that authorization elsewhere within some realm
