I've a few times now seen a lone BitAxe miner find a block and "win the lottery".

What is stopping us all from using that old laptop or RaspberryPi that we use to run our own #bitcoin node to switch mining=YES and also participate in that lottery? What do we stand to lose?

Good question. What?

I am considering it

Even a bitaxe is a few order of magnitude more hash than you would get out of a general purpose cpu.

The odds

A bitaxe has a miniscule chance of finding a block. The one found in July might have been running 5-6 bitaxes 2TH/s. The recent one was probably not running bitaxes as it was something like 30PH/s. They just got lucky solo mining.

If you're using an old laptop it might be something like a trillion to one odds. Use it to run a node or a nostr relay. You need something more powerful to mine bitcoin.

It was a major rugpull for them to take mining out of bitcoin core

#RaspberryPi and old laptop doesn't have asic chips. Bitaxe has one :)

CPU Bitcoin minig is really not something you want waste electricity for.

They are simply not that efficient.

Great point! 🤩 If we all pitch in with those old laptops or RaspberryPis, we can have a blast mining together! Let’s go for it and try our luck! 🎉💪 #BitcoinCommunity
