Not so, as there are now quite a few alternative push solutions, for example, this one at https://f-droid.org/en/2020/02/03/openpush-talk.html but I saw another one recently as well.

If you still require some backend running somewhere from a third party you are still exposed to being cut off. Unless there is a market for backend push servers that you can choose from and at moment notice switch if one is censored or killed. Or if you're running your own self-hosted. Otherwise I still see a benefit in not being dependent on centralized backends using pull.
