The biggest motivators for my American clients to pursue 2nd citizenship are:

1. Desire for Plan B home;

2. Wish to live part time in Europe;

3. General distrust/concern of America’s direction.

Very few are actually consistent renunciation of U.S. citizenship in the near future, although some consider the fact that a 2nd citizenship would more easily facilitate renunciation in the future if necessary.
