Vietnam is a country that is well and truly on the upswing. Somehow their version of communism has found an equilibrium that still allows people to pull themselves out of poverty with capitalism without the government being extremely interventionist.
The USA fucked them over hard in the 60s trying to deliver “freedom,” and still couldn’t break their spirit. They deserve to succeed under whatever system works best for them.
And 100 years of French colonialism before the Americans showed up.. They’ve been fighting for a thousand years for their sovereignty and now that they’ve got it, even under a system we might not like from the outside, it’s pretty amazing to see what they’re doing on the inside.
It’s not perfect but they’re a damn sight happier and healthier than any Western country I’ve visited in the past decade.
Oh Andrew, I was inspired living there by how entrepreneurial the people are
