Most open-source software has little value, except to the person who wrote it.

It's the opposite, with closed-source.

Usually only the person who writes it, will ever use it.

I think this applies even more to closed source (in companies / science / home)

You underestimate just how much OSS now exists. It's like mental masturbation in public. We used to do that in Notepad, now it's in GitHub.
