It's pretty bad. I live in a small town. People here don't even look at you, let alone talk. Heaven forbid there was ever any conflict (which of course there is). I grew up in a family were we always talked, despite how painful it was. I'm now surrounded by passive, avoid-talk-at-all-costs kinda folk. It's fucked.
