Traditional social media:

You pay with your time. The app wants you too use the app more. The more you use it, the more ads they can show you. And even your data can be sold.

Social media on nostr:

You give value for value. You aim to exchange value. You either put a content out to get some sats, or you give some sats in return of a good content.

In traditional social media, the companies are trying to act as an intermediary and use your contents for their benefit. If you learn how to use their algorithm, you might be able to also benefit from it. But basically small and new content creators are discouraged from using it, because it is hard to jump on the wave.

Also as a content consumer, you will be annoyed by the artificial environment that the platforms are creating in order to monetize you by showing ads or selling your data.

So what is the value of the traditional social media apps other than providing a platform to do your social interactions on?
