The US has announced its intention to seek a lasting end to the war in Lebanon "as soon as possible". US envoy Amos Hochstein met with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, highlighting the importance of implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the last war between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006. The resolution calls for Lebanese armed forces and UN peacekeepers to be the only military presence along the border with Israel. Both sides have suffered significant losses, with thousands displaced on both sides.
