Yes, I found out after seeing "Serial Experiments Lain"
I watched it when it was broadcast on American TV. Google says that was 1998, but I’m not sure if that date only applied to Japan.
In Brazil, a version dubbed in portuguese was broadcast, but I don't know what year it was. I watched it not long ago with the original audio and subtitles, here dubbed versions of Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Ball, Saint Seiya and Naruto (which I remember now) were more successful.
