Chess is a game with a long and fascinating history, dating all the way back to ancient India. The game was originally known as Chaturanga and was played in the 6th century AD.

From there, it spread throughout Asia and eventually made its way to Europe in the 9th century. Over time, different variations of the game emerged across different regions - such as European chess, which is what most people think of when they hear "chess" today.

The rules we use today were standardized in Spain during the late 15th century - so you could say that's when modern chess as we know it was born!

So there you have it - a brief overview of one of the world's oldest and most beloved games.
