Bitcoin, cash to hand, gold coins in various sizes and silver. Should be the functional route no?

Yes. Bitcoin, Monero, access to a stash of precious metals, and cash in hand. But, ofc currency only matters if there's a functioning marketplace. Depending on the situation, precious metals, food, water, medicinal supplies, tools, and ammunition may become far more valuable than any currency.

Excellent summary. I think location is a key element too. About to build another house. Goal is full sovereign energy and water. Then it’s time for a little finca for food. Seems like reasonable goal for the next year!

Hard same. That's awesome! πŸ”₯πŸš€

Lots to learn. Again, coming back to community I have a regenerative farming expert that could do with practicing his talents in a better environment and another who's a vet with loads of sperm on ice. Sorry, just like the stupidity of the way that sounds but he has loads of sperm from prize bulls of different breeds and just can't afford the land. Gonna try build something out where a bunch of people put in so everyone truly has skin in the game and aligned incentives. Thread the needle!

Also the marketplace is something I think people sometimes overlook as they think about their personal situation. It’s why I consider bitcoin shilling and adoption is a key strategy in local community

ya, ammo. i dont really mess with guns but sometimes i think about just having a stash of ammo isnt the worst idea.

Hunger will drive violence if things get messy. One thing I found interesting during Covid where I live is how rapidly the community organised to feed those in need. That also results in community protecting each other as well. Violence is commonly a last resort for most people which makes community as important as ammo

Certainly a valid concern. Though, it's close. It will be hard for communities without ammo to protect themselves in the wild or from other communities who do have ammo. This makes functioning weapons and ammo very very valuable.

will 9mm be the reserve currency ?

depends on the situation, but it's a contender for sure

When fiat collapses, there may be many currencies. Scarcity drives value. Hell, I worked in Angola for a while and some of the guys coming in found that USB drives were so uncommon, people wanted them to take home and exchange for things. He was bringing a sports bag full in every month and making a killing as bloody USB sticks had effectively become a form of currency

.22 long rifle

9mm

In that order.

Everyone forgets how useful .22 is.

Highest storage density for barter in a SHTF situation would be small rifle primers. Primers are the only centerfire cartridge components that are unrealistic to diy.

What's the average shelf life on shotgun ammo?

Federal Ammunition and others suggest a conservative shelf life of 10 years for ammo. This doesn't mean your ammo will suddenly go bad after a decade. The key factor is the storage environment. Heat and moisture are the main enemies.

If you can keep the humidity below 50 percent and maintain a mild, stable temperature (around 70 degrees or cooler), you'll significantly reduce the chances of moisture or corrosion issues.

The best way to preserve your ammunition is to store it in a cool, dry place. This also helps slow down the natural breakdown of smokeless powder over time. While reactions within the powder can eventually weaken the load, keeping it cool slows these oxidation reactions more effectively than extremely cold environments.

Avoid storing ammo in uncooled buildings, car interiors, or basements without temperature control, as these conditions are detrimental.

Thank you! Very thorough explanation.
