Study Bitcoin: Cryptography

Bitcoin utilises Elliptical Curve Cryptography (ECDSA) which is a branch of mathematics where only addition and multiplication are allowed.

Assuming that's cos any strings encrypted would be too easy to figure out with subtraction and division included.

This form of cryptography produces a proof that the person who signed a transaction in Bitcoin knew the private key without showing everyone the private key itself.

Importantly anyone else who has your public key can check that it was created by the matching private key. Yet to figure out how but guessing running a Node is the answer there.

This cryptography allows us to send BTC transactions while also being the only one who can spend it AND allowing the person we are sending value to to check if we actually had the private key (ie correct authority) to send it.
