My wife and I were broke when we got married.

We saw our friends starting their marriages in wedding debt and decided to officiate our own marriage in her sister's basement. We bought like $100 in beer and everyone brought a dish. A witness signed the license after us. A picture session for the boomers and everyone was happy and debt free.

It's absolutely retarded to put a wedding on credit. I'm not backing down on that. If your potential spouse demands it, run. You'll probably end up divorced anyway.

House downpayment or wedding? We still live in that house, the wedding is long over.

We chose to rent and invest, but yeah, a down payment is a lot fucking smarter than debt for a wedding. A lot of people are out there getting low down, high interest loans on top of wedding debt. Cars, boats, RVs. I see some WILD shit in real life.

i agree it’s completely strange odd and nonsense

it’s like they believe in some universe sending them money back maybe or similar stuff

They believe that all wedding guests should send them money.

Same thing with (expensive) engagement rings.

Never understood that piece of wasted money.

Hollywood propaganda going strong probably

Yeah we saved on that too. I can't stand wearing jewelry and my wife didnt want the stress of worrying about losing or damaging it. But, if she wants a ring now, I'd happily buy her one. She's always been the frugal one though 😂

I'd actually forgotten about rings. I remember people putting 5k+ rings on credit. So retarded
