Why do people prefer to listen to instead of read content?

Homo sapiens: 200,000 - 300,000 years old

Literacy: 5,000 years old

Takes time to evolve?

I much prefer to read about information than to watch a video or to listen to something (although it can be handy to listen to a podcast while I am doing something physical like working in my garden). It is usually faster to get the key information. It is silent. It is easier to get to the information that I really want and skip what doesn't interest me. I find most video to take forever to get the information. Of course some how-to videos are good.

Interesting. Did you read a lot when young?

I also wonder how you'd like an algorithm video vs one not worried about that. Like those recipes online with the history of cookies before getting to the recipe. ๐Ÿ˜„

I read a lot when I was a kid and I still read a lot.

Storytelling is old and powerful, like you state, for most of human history we have shared knowledge verbally. I still prefer podcast or actually watching people over youtube, but I'm old.

YouTube algorithms may be to blame for your dislike, besides age. What are your favorite podcasts?

Mainly The Survival Podcast, I also listen to Things I learned Last Night for comedy.

Thanks. Looked up the comedy one (alread had survival pod). Looks interesting - educational and comedy - subscribed to it.

It's kid friendly too, I enjoy the way they pick apart a conspiracy theory or weird event and their tangents are hilarious.
