I guess I was more comparing it to email addresses. Am I a huge fan of Gmail and I wanna direct attention to it? I wouldn’t say so, but I am using it. I would love it to be behind an @ logo next to the profile zap myself, so it wouldn’t be part of my branding.

but gmail provides you with an email server. Since there is no longer a check mark badge, what is a nip 05 service providing?
i can receive emails using my NIP-05 and also use that address as the Bitcoin tipping address
you can forward these things because of the flaw of having an @ sign in the middle of nip 05 or in other words having two @at@signs if these were used as mentions. we don’t use them this way here because it’s a major valid critique of mastodon, that people think they are email address.
