THE EIGHT WASTES

_______________

The eight wastes in business are detrimental to both productivity and employee well-being. The eight different types of wastes are:

1. Transportation: Unnecessary movement of materials or products.

2. Inventory: Excess stock that ties up resources and capital.

3. Motion: Unneeded actions or movements of people and machines.

4. Waiting: Idle time due to delays or inefficiencies.

5. Extra-Processing: Adding more value than customers require.

6. Overproduction: Making more than needed, leading to waste.

7. Defects: Errors that cause rework, scrap, or customer dissatisfaction.

8. Non-Utilized Talent: Not utilizing employee ideas and skills.

In essence, the eight wastes not only hinder productivity but also create an environment that affects the well-being, motivation, and satisfaction of employees, ultimately hampering overall organizational success.
