For about a month before the unfortunate decline of nostrgram.co I had decided to try, essentially, pay the dev of that platform each day that I used the client. We had had a number of discussions with npub1t9a59hjk48svr8hz6rx727ta6kx53n5d6fw8x26vsua0zytpl87sa6h4uw about how client devs would be able to continue providing support for their protocols as nostr evolved and grew. I had helped him a couple of times, me doing basic testing/feedback while he configured the backend, iron out bugs and issues on some of the upgrades that he was implementing The discussions, in the early months of 2023 threw up ideas and arguments that centred, among other things, around whether clients would need to charge a subscription for their use, perhaps integrate an ad model or whether the dev could rely on "donations" to enable them to justify spending so much time keeping the clients going. In the spirit of experimentation I chose to simply zap 500 sats per day for using nostrgram.co which I felt was a way to kick start some sort of viable model going forward. Without support I fear work on clients will tend towards a few centralized protocols that become the dominant way that users integrate with nostr.
