No. Real estate didn't even beat gold over the last 30 years. The only reason people invest in real estate is because they can get other people to make the mortgage.

If you live in a house, you're sheltering, not investing. You can't realize much of your gains unless you move to a shack in the middle of nowhere, Alabama.
