🌊 SURF 'N TURF 🏝️

-THE ISLAND LIFE-

René Magritte was born on November 21, 1898. On February 24, 1912, his mother died by suicide by drowning in the river.

Supposedly, when her mother was found, her dress was covering her face, an image that has been suggested as the source of several of Magritte's paintings in 1927-1928 of people with cloth darkening their faces, including Les Amants, a series of four oil paintings, painted in 1928. Each of these four paintings is kept in different art collections and museums.

😥 I knew the painting, but not the sad motive behind it. I always learn something new from you. Thank you for that!

Evelin. It's always a pleasure to read your kind messages. I also did not know the story behind the art, it's sad, but goes to show how artists turn to their creativity to process tragic events in their lives. Fascinating really, I learn a lot in my research too. I appreciate you 🧡 🙏
