Listening to the Ready Player One audiobook again. The author describes the pretend virtual world being an escape from a dystopian real world. It’s a videogame that becomes people’s reality.

Isn’t that the same as social media in our world? It starts as an escape, but becomes a consuming reality for some.

I like to think I use it as a communication tool that augments physical reality instead.

And that’s what I like about protocols like Nostr. You can shape your usage of it to be whatever you like. Want a short-form text post platform? Sure. Want to advertise your business? Done. Want to show off vacation pics? Yup. Blogging platform? No one can stop you. It’s whatever you shape it to be.

I am offended, lol. I agree with OP: cyberspace is a communication tool and it augments reality; it is not meant to compete with or replace reality.

Ready Player One depicts the metaverse world that I dislike the most. I don't want people to be sucked into it. I'm not building it for that.

Regardless thanks for the shoutout tekne
