If you look at covid date in terms of years of human life lost, it paints a very different picture.

Something that mostly kills octogenarian’s isn’t a reason to close schools.

My own grandparents who fought in WWII would be appalled at the idea of closing schools nationwide to allow some 84 year olds to live to 87.

If the pandemic had happened in the 90’s when that generation was still around, things would have gone very differently.

Was banned from social media for looking at that data. The media had Covid case counts and daily deaths on their news tickers, our politicians did daily press conferences announcing this stuff and people acted like 10-12 people dying every day was the end of civilisation rather than a small percentage of regular death numbers. The data showed it was ALL old people dying, every instance of a young person dying “from” Covid turned out to be “with”. At one point the youngest was a kid who died at 15 from meningitis- the hospital explicitly said it wasn’t a Covid death but they put him in the statistics any way so the media could run a headline..

There was one economist who pushed back and she got destroyed for a week. Rewatching her now it’s unbelievable that I was one of the few on her side, she was the only one being reasonable whilst governments were busy looting the coffers and our rights.

She spoke about QALY though and exposed a little known fact - the Dep of Prime Minister & Cabinet have long maintained a “value of statistical life”. People were outraged at her for bringing it up, not understanding these numbers are used daily for all sorts of decisions, but

because her math showed we were wasting millions on protecting people who were going to die regardless of intervention, they went after her as some evil ghoul not wanting people to think about the devastating economic toll as they unilaterally pursued this idiotic idea of “Covid zero”.
