How good is emulation on the OG switch? I've never done anything to it, but I have homebrewed a 2DS xl and played Gameboy advance games on it with much success because they actually just play natively somehow.

Anything up to PS1 N64 is no problem with retroarch. Not all Dreamcast will run perfect, but a majority will. PS1, N64 & Dreamcast will upscale well, at least to 720, 1080 with a little overclock. It can't run more complicated shaders, but simpler one are fine for CRT effects on older consoles.

There are some nice software mods too, like the ability to use Wii, WiiU, Xbox & PS4&5 controllers natively.

Pretty good, so good that it runs the games better than in the original OS. There was this guy on Youtube that ran a few tests, BotW and Minecraft ran faster on a Linux environment using Ryujinx...

Yes, I mean emulating Switch games on a Switch

So BotW will play better emulated on a switch than natively on the switch? 🤯 That's some software wizardry.

I couldn't find the video, wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo took it down

I believe you, tentatively.

I'm going to have to experiment on my switch 👀

But maybe I should hold off until I have the 2. But it's just that I have such a backlog of games I need to finish, I'm loathe to actually buy a new console and new games. I end up just replaying old ones like some kind of degen.

If you make an emunand (recommended) you can dual boot stock & hacked os even 🏴‍☠️

I played with that. Theoretically faster, but buggy as hell. It's easier to OC on the stock os. Switch runs at 1Ghz CPU & 700mhz GPU, but can OC to 1.7ghz & 970mhz. That makes a lot of games run much smoother. There are even 60hz patches for a lot of 30hz games. I'm glad I bought an OG switch early, I've still got my unpatched model.
