it is probably not the "best" decision to some people. i mean, it was a highly respected university post and many people would want to be in my shoes, but i know my mental, financial and interest strength.
i dont think i want to do it for the next 3 years and the rest of my life.
what funny is that, im my country, medical specialist s & consultants are very guarded terms, with legislative rights given to the ministry of health to award them to those they see fit.
however, the public perception truly differs from what the government has in mind.
for example, there was a buzz in my country recently where the ministry of health want to derecognize specialist trained under the MRCP, MRCPh and MRCOG pathway. they only want to recognize those who underwent our local master program / phd program. what stupid about this suggestion is that, not only there are limited seats for master program / phd program, and you can only join a master or phd program as a government staff, and these programs are not even recognised overseas, my DrPH included.
at least MRCP, MRCPh and MRCOG are recognised globally
previously in my country, occupational medicine was a distinct specialty from public health whereby candidates taking Master of Occupational Medicine. The MFOM paper overseas were never recognised. now the ministry bundle up everything as "public health" and make a mess of the system
