One thing I noticed in this trip is that many hotels block Tor and thus the connection to a outbox relays fails in our default setting. We may need to add a way to temporarily turn off and connect to random relays in the open web after a few tries.

Currently, the only option is to add a list of relays to your Trusted Relay list so that they always connect without Tor.

Must be a new thing, I feel like I've used Tor at hotels many times in the past... Considering the "communal" nature of Hotel WiFi, I'd actually tend to prefer Tor / VPN connections by default.

That's certainly true in every hotel in UAE that I visited.

Tor only works through VPN.

Some VPNs are also blocked in UAE.

I don't see a list of Trusted Relays that bypass tor in Amethyst.

It's on your relay list settings screen.

There I see sections called

Public...

DM...

Private...

Search...

Local...

General...

Are you on an old version? It should be after blocked relays

Current version is 1.03

Thanks!

I see it's fdroid version, but my fdroid app doesn't list it anymore.

Yeah, fdroid doesn't ship anything that has Tor in it.

"hotel mode"

intenet sucks that too many hosts and places datacenters or providers (hint cloudflare et al) apparently sometimes or customer decision wise dont wana serve mere http or https to connecting clients nodes that e.g. dont have reverse hostname set and other bullshit. just a simple example i come across. and often there is geoblocking or network blockage and shit. so much for the internet. back in the old days packets were being delivered and requested and all was pretty neat and coop. just what the fuck. what became of transport and get done with it. fuck them all.
