Forest, field, and river is what we got. We are separated from the world by a 7,000 cfs river with massive rapids downstream. Why does this work for us? We are river people, spent our whole lives navigating whitewater and river crossings. The river is our life and what our community revolves around and having it between us and the world gives us a peace of mind that is hard to come by in civilization. Call it a moat, filter, whatever....to us it represents security and community.

However building the conventional way with heavy materials wasn't going to work for us as we would need to cross every board and nail on a cataraft or cable. The question was, what is a light structure, super easy to move in pieces, easy to ship from a distance, easy to insulate, and is big enough to be our house?

Answer: Geodesic Dome!
