The main principle of military discipline is to reduce men, to what are essentially machines.

They have no volition of their own, but are actuated by the will of their officers. The intense fear of their officers overrides all fear of the enemy. They go into battle when ordered, with no more thought or concern than an automaton.

I’ve always asked myself how they can make it. What normal human being would go to war? The war profiteers are sitting in a chair enjoying life while men kill each other. For what?

I have recently seen a man who was proud his only son followed his advice and went to fight in the US army, in a couple of months the father received the information that his son died on the front. He seemed destroyed by the news, he was screaming and crying…like…my man, you told him to do it, you literally fucking killed your own son. What was he expecting?

It’s done by propaganda.

My own father, who was in a war explained it to me as a kid.

He simply said “you will never see a picture of a dead soldier”. This was in the days before the internet .

Father in law talked about BBC getting "tips" when the army scouted the area they found news crews ready to "cover" the action.
