"[T]here was a large riot in progress in RYDC and inmates had broom handles, metal pipes, and items from the kitchen," according to a statement from the Georgia Department of Public Safety Public Information Office. "They also stated that RYDC workers were currently locked in the control room. Troopers went in with Savannah Units to get the workers free from the control room."
